The Cobra's Shade
While young Nanak was out tending cattle, he fell into a deep meditative sleep. As the sun shifted, a large cobra was seen spreading its hood over the boy's face to provide shade. This sight convinced the local village chief, Rai Bular, that Nanak was not an ordinary child but a beloved of God.
