A devotee once brought an empty pot to the Guru, upset that he didn't understand the Gurbani he recited. The Guru showed him that just as butter clings to a pot even after it's emptied, the 'grease' of the Guru's word clings to the soul of the seeker, slowly purifying them even if the mind doesn't fully grasp the meaning.
