Sikh Sakhis · Origins & Gurus · Guru Amar Das Ji
The Twelve Years of Water
Though he was much older than the Guru, Amar Das took up the humblest service. Every night, regardless of rain or storm, he walked miles to the river Beas to fetch a fresh pitcher of water for Guru Angad’s morning bath. He walked backward away from the Guru’s house so he would never turn his back on his Master.
